Reading Challenge Bingo Card Generator
This Reading Challenge bingo list has 44 tasks, including “Classic novel”, “Number in the title” and “Read before breakfast”. A 5x5 card with a free center shows 24 of them, and up to 30 unique cards print free; players mark squares as they complete them, so a line takes 5 tasks and a full card 24.

About Reading Challenge bingo
Reading Challenge Bingo turns a year of reading into a card of prompts, such as a “Book with a blue cover”, a “Translated book”, “Read before breakfast” and “From your birth year”. Each square can be met by many different books, so readers of any taste can play, and prompts like “Play script” and “Book of essays” nudge people toward formats they rarely try.
This Reading Challenge list is 44 tasks long and a 5x5 card with a free center takes 24, which leaves 20 off each card. That is why one entry (“Debut novel”, say) appears on about 16 of 30 cards: card 1, for instance, has no “Book with a blue cover” or “Debut novel”.
There is no caller: each player marks a square once they have done it, such as “Play script” or “Book made into a film”, over an agreed week or month. A line takes 5 squares (4 on a line through the free center); a full card takes all 24.

How to play Reading Challenge bingo
-
Print the Reading Challenge cards
Give each player one card; a free set prints up to 30, no two alike. Card 1 above starts with “Color in the title”, “Read aloud to someone”, “Read in one day”, “Book of essays” and “Science fiction”.
-
Agree on the time frame
Each player marks a square once it is done, such as “Play script” or “Book made into a film”. Set the period first (a week, a month, a season); a line needs 5 squares (4 on a line through the free center) and a full card all 24.
-
Allow one book per square so the card lasts; a single novel should not count for “Mystery novel”, “Over 400 pages” and “Library book” at once.
-
For classrooms, swap “Over 400 pages” for a shorter target and add a “Picture book” to read aloud to a younger buddy.
-
Keep a list on the back of the card with the title you used for each square; book clubs can compare lists at the end of the season.
-
Check the card
Ask the winner what they did for each square on the line. A full card is 24 of the 44 tasks; card 1 of this set, for example, includes “Color in the title” and “Read aloud to someone”.
Reading Challenge bingo variations
-
Reading Challenge variation
Book swap: when a reader completes a line, they recommend one book from it to another player, who must read it to fill their own “A friend's pick” square.
-
Blackout round
Card 1 needs all 24 tasks, “Color in the title” to “Biography”; over a 30-day month that is about 5.6 tasks a week.
-
Quick 4x4 round
A 4x4 card has 16 squares and no free space, so a full card needs 16 tasks instead of 24; lines take 4.
First 15 entries on the Reading Challenge caller sheet
Seed "reading-challenge" gives this order, the same one the caller sheet prints (use it as a checklist, or call from it). With these entries in this order, card 10 of the first 30 completes the G column (“From your birth year”, “One-word title”, “Book of essays”, “Unread book you own” and “Memoir”) on entry 8, and card 30 is the first full card on entry 39.

Frequently asked questions
How many tasks are on the Reading Challenge bingo list?
44, from A friend's pick to Unread book you own. A 5x5 card with a free center uses 24 of them, so each card leaves out 20. The shortest entry is Memoir (6 characters) and the longest is Short story collection (22).
Are all Reading Challenge bingo cards the same?
No. Card 1 and card 2 of this set share 13 of their 24 squares, and every card is checked so none of the 30 in a free set repeats. About 1.09 × 10³⁶ different arrangements are possible from the 44 tasks (1,761,039,350,070 different selections of 24).
How many Reading Challenge bingo cards per person?
One card per player: each card is a personal checklist of 24 tasks. A free set of 30 cards covers 30 players, and New shuffle makes another set for a bigger group.
How do you play Reading Challenge bingo?
There is no caller: each player marks a square once they have done it, such as “Play script” or “Book made into a film”, over an agreed week or month. A line takes 5 squares (4 on a line through the free center); a full card takes all 24.
Can I print Reading Challenge bingo cards for free?
Yes, up to 30 unique cards per set at no cost and without an account. Pick how many you need, then use Print cards or Download PDF: each card gets its own page with the title “Reading Challenge Bingo” on top, and the caller sheet lists all 44 tasks in this set's shuffled order.
How do I make my own Reading Challenge bingo cards?
Start from this list: the 44 tasks are already in the generator, so delete “Read before breakfast” or any other entry, type your own one per line and the cards update as you type. Keep at least 24 entries for 5x5 cards (16 for 4x4); the share link reprints exactly the same set.
