How 1-100 4x4 cards are laid out

Columns have fixed ranges: column 1 1-25, column 2 26-50, column 3 51-75 and column 4 76-100. Every column gets 4 numbers. A card covers 16% of the values 1 to 100, so a given card is marked on only about one call in 6.3 and games run long.

In our 400 simulated games with 30 cards, the first straight line fell at call 24 and the first full card (blackout) at call 81, out of 100 possible calls from 1 to 100.

How to make 1-100 bingo cards (4x4 cards) by hand

  • Draw a 4x4 grid for each 1-100 4x4 card.
  • Fill each column from its own range: 4 from 1-25 in column 1, 4 from 26-50 in column 2, 4 from 51-75 in column 3 and 4 from 76-100 in column 4, never repeating a number.
  • Each 1-100 4x4 card now holds 16 of the 100 values. Compare new cards with the ones you have made, since two identical cards would win together.
  • Write 1 to 100 on 100 slips (or print the caller sheet) and draw them one at a time.

How many 1-100 4x4 cards per person

Start with one card per player; keen players can take two or three. In our runs a card on its own needed 55 calls for a line, while the first line among 10 cards came at call 30, among 30 at call 24 and among 100 at call 18.

So for 1-100 4x4 bingo, 10 players with 3 cards each, or 15 players with 2 each, should expect a winner around call 24 of 100; a class of 30 with one card each gives the same figure.

That spread (31 calls between one card and thirty) is large for a 100-number game, so giving keen players 2 or 3 cards each speeds things up noticeably without changing the chances for anyone holding the same number of cards.

How to play 1-100 4x4 bingo

  1. Make the cards

Generate cards above (free up to 30 per set, all different) and print one per player; a single card already finds a line in about 55 calls.

  2. Prepare the calls

Print the caller sheet: 1 to 100 (100 numbers) in a shuffled order.

  3. Call and mark

Read each number twice and cross it off the caller board. Expect the first line around call 24 with 30 cards.

  4. Check the winner

Ask the winner to read back their line; every number must be on your board. A blackout needs all 16 numbers; with 30 cards that took 81 calls in our runs.
